Start 2010 with us!!!!
We are going to start out our new year with a new competition! It will start Monday, January 4th and run until Valentines Day. If you want to join us, the more the merrier. You will need to weigh in every Monday morning or Sunday night, which ever works better but always do it on the same day at the same time. You keep track of your starting weight. No one but you will ever know your weight. Each week you take the amount you lost and divide that number by your beginning weight and that is your percent you will email to me each week. The person on Valentines who has the highest percent lost will be the "Biggest Loser".
You can give $5 to the 'pot' and the person who donated and has the highest percent will win the pot. Of course, if you don't want to contribute $5 but want to participate you're welcome to do so- you just won't be eligible for the combined pot.
Please email me a picture so we can all see who we are competing against. If you have already emailed me a picture from the past competitions you don't need to do another one unless you want a new picture.
Good luck and made the force be with you!
Please email me by Sunday, January 3rd if you'll be participating.

You will just win a smaller waist size! Yeah!!! I'll post the players in a day or two......Make sure to let me know you want to play. It will be fun.

Prevention's ideas on how to lose weight
Hello!
I was reading Prevention Magazine and they had simple ways to burn extra calories each day.
1. Do crunches in bed. Draw your knees toward your chest 25 to 50 times to rev your energy. Add a set at night to double the burn.
2. Dance while you dress. Put on your favorite radio station and add a few shimmies and shakes.
3. Circle the block. Lap the grocery store before you start shopping or take a 15 minute midday walk.
4. Stand up more. Don't sit on the bench at the playground while kids play, walk around.
5. Take a comedy break. Laughing burns calories. Watch funny sketches on the computer or find a sitcom you find funny.
6. Play the post-it game. Write exercises on five or six sticky notes-50 jumping jacks, 20 crunches, 10 push-ups, 25 lunges for example. Have your hubby or kids hide them around the house. When you find one you have to follow the instructions.
7. Target one body part a day. While you watch TV do lunges or squats. The next day sits-up.
Or put hand weights by your bathroom sink and every time you wash your hands, do 10 biceps. By the end of the day you have done about 50. Change body parts each day. I have tried this one and I think my arms are stronger.
8. Make multiple trips. When you do laundry or bring in groceries, don't pile everything. Carry one bag or item at a time.
9. Fidget frequently. Pace while on the phone, bounce your knee, shift in your seat.
10. Move to TV music. Workout on commercials. Jumping jacks, sit-ups, push-ups. Do them in 30 second intervals.
Hopefully this will help me stay active and burn a few extra calories so I don't feel guilty when I eat a bowl of ice cream while watching TV.

Things we learned from South Beach
When Jake and I were doing South Beach diet a few years ago, we learned some good habits that helped us be more healthy. I thought I would share the things that have stuck.
1. Eat whole wheat.....bread, rice, bagels, whatever. Try to stay away from white grains.
2. Juice is full of sugar. Drink the crystal lite version of juice. Walmart and Target make great brands of Crystal Lite that are good, cheap and better for you. If you don't like those drinks, at least water down your juice as much as you can.
3. Sugar free chocolate does taste good. Dark chocolate is also good. Once you start on it, you will like it better than milk. I didn't think I would ever say that, but I honestly like dark better now.
4. Drink a cup full of Metamucial 10 minutes before each meal. It will make you feel full and not eat so much. Plus it is good fiber. (Walmart has an orange brand that doesn't taste too bad.)
5. Eat breakfast. Eggs, oatmeal, yogurt and granola, all good choices.
